Who to Watch at the 2025 Jerome Classic at Swangard Stadium, Burnaby
The 2025 Jerome Classic is a world-class track and field event taking place Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC, Canada. Witness elite competition amongst top Olympic athletes from Canada, the United States, and from around the world. The Jerome Classic features premier track and field events:
3:50pm: C 3000m Race Walk International
Olympian teammates Evan Dunfee and Olivia Lundman kick off the Elite action at this year’s event.
4:22pm: M 400mH International
In the exciting 400m Hurdles, the Meet record could fall with three international athletes boasting times of 48.87 or better. 400m Hurdlers to watch at the 2025 Jerome Classic include Jamaican Assinie Wilson, a NACAC U23 champion, Barbadian national record holder Rasheeme Griffith and 4x NCAA Medalist James Smith LL. 4:27pm: W Seated Shot Put International
Watch women’s seated Shot Put with Canadian Paralympian Julia Hanes. Be inspired.
4:47pm: M+W 100m Heats
Joseph Amoah is back to defend this year against Usheoritse Itsekiri of Nigeria and American Marcellus Moore, the later two boasting times of 9.97 and 9.96 in the 100m. Also watch and cheer for Canadian star Malachi Murray who holds a national title to his name. The event record is held by Donovan Bailey, who recorded a time of 9.99 seconds in 1997.
5:34pm: M Shot Put International
Watch this event from the south-end of Swangard Stadium. Chris Van Niekerk from South Africa holds a season’s best throw that’s only 0.18m over Sarah Mitton’s, to show what type of world-class form Sarah is in. You can watch the Canadian Olympian later in the day with the W Shot Put Premium.
5:39pm: Triple Jump International
Watch this exciting new event from the stands at Swangard Stadium. Leading the charge for Canada are brothers Divine and Praise Aniamaka, two of the country’s most promising young athletes in the event. Adding to the international flair will be Shemaiah James, a national champion for Australia.
5:49pm: W100m + M110m Hurdles Premium
Canadian hurdler Tatiana Aholou, who placed third in the 100m hurdles at both the 2023 and 2024 Canadian Track and Field Championships will compete on the women’s side. Aholou arrives with a new wind-aided season best 12.59, where the event record is 12.76 set by Canadian Olympian Jessica Zelinka.
The men’s 110mH event record is held by Canadian Mark McKoy, who clocked 13.45 seconds, then later won gold in the 110m hurdles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Be here for this exciting event right by the grand stands. Americans Michael Dickson and De’Vion Wilson enter with top times this year.
5:35pm: Host City Welcome
Thank you to all event partners including the government of Canada, government of British Columbia, Athletics Canada, World Athletics, BC Athletics, Sport Burnaby, Tourism Burnaby, White Spot and Fitness World. The event is organized by the non-profit organizations of RUNVAN and the Achilles Society.
6:36pm: M 100m Finals Premium
This historic event has featured Canadian Olympians Donovan Bailey, Andre De Grasse, Aaron Brown and Jerome Blake. Of course, the event is also affectionately named after the iconic Harry Jerome when he first won the race back in 1964.
100m women’s champs include Philippine national record Kristina Knott who is back this year, Meet record holder Maia McCoy from the USA, and Audrey Leduc, Canadian national record holder over 100m and 200m. Witness this explosive, exciting event in prime time.
6:42pm: Mascot Race

6:49pm: W 200m International
200m women’s is another deep field with Canadian Olympian teammates Zoe Sherar, Jacqueline Madogo Marie-Éloïse Leclair, plus Kristina Knott.
6:58pm: M+W 800m Premium
The men’s 800m event record is held by four-time American Olympian Johnny Gray, with a time of 1:43.70, set in 1988. This year, watch for Jamaican national record holder Navasky Anderson, Olympian Handal Roban and cheer on Team Canada’s Abdullahi Hassan.
The women’s 800m includes Olympic and Team Canada Teammates Lucia Stafford, Jazz Shukla, Aurora Rynda, Addy Townsend and more. Don’t miss this stacked field as they chase three-time Olympian Melissa Bishop‘s Meet record of 1:58.79 set in 2016.
7:18pm: W Shot Put Premium
Sarah Mitton threw 20.68m at the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Tour to win gold with the world’s best indoor throw since 2013. Shot Put stars feature a host of Olympians including Canada’s Sarah Mitton, 2023 Jerome Classic Champ, plus defending 2024 Jerome Classic champ Danniel Thomas-Dodd of Jamaica.
7:26pm: W 400m Premium
In the 400m, Canadian Olympians Madeline Price, Kyra Constantine and Jasneet Nijjar compete against a strong field including Bermuda’s national record holder Caitlyn Bobb, who boasts a field best 51.11.
7:40pm: W 3000m Steeplechase Premium
In the always exciting 3000m steeplechase, Ceili McCabe‘s meet record could be challenged by two Americans and an Australian at this World Athletics Continental Tour Stop. Angelina Ellis and Gracie Hyde of the USA, plus Amy Cashin of Australia, hold faster times than the meet record, but not better than Ceili McCabe’s Canadian national record of 9:20.58.
7:56pm: M+W 1500m Premium
Canadian Olympians Charles Philibert-Thiboutot and Jean-Simon Desgagnés compete against a stacked 1500m field with National and NCAA Champs from the USA in Joe Waskom, Samuel Prakel, Nathan Green. Charles Philibert-Thiboutot CPT, plus USA’s Nathan Green and Joe Waskom, all have faster 1500m times in ’24 ’25 than the meet record, so this race will be fast. Pacers are going out for 3:32.
Kieran Lumb broke that 1500m record just last year in 3:34.53 while the women’s 1500m event record is held by Canadian Olympian Lynn Kanuka Williams, who ran 4:04.43 in 1991.
Lynn’s record may be safe but watch for Hanna Hermansson, Sweden’s 7x National Champ.
8:17pm: G+B 4x100m JD
Girls and Boys U12 and U14 Relay Events will take place on the same stage as the Elites before the final event.
8:39pm: W+M 3000m International
Jerome Classic 3000m SC champ and 3x Canadian Olympian, Regan Yee will race the 3000m this year to help close out the Meet, chased by First Half podium finisher Elissa Legault, among others.
Setting the 3000m Meet Record just last year in 7:41.20, Canadian Olympian Thomas Fafard is in a class by himself. See if Fafard can find another title as he races at Swangard Stadium, Tuesday, July 15. Notable names from the road scene also include First Half and BMO Vancouver Half Marathon champ Andrew Davies, plus rising star Yemane Mulugeta.
