Canadian distance star Charles Philibert-Thiboutot returns to the Jerome Classic this summer, taking on the ambitious double in the 1500m and pacing the 3000m. A two-time Olympian with a personal best of 3:32.94 – set in 2023 – he joins a deep field where several athletes have the potential to break the event record of 3:34.53, set by Kieran Lumb in 2024.
The men’s 1500m is shaping up to be one of the most competitive events on the program, with a strong field that includes:
- Samuel Prakel (USA) – 3:35.28 (2025 season best), 3:34.63 PB (2023)
- Nathan Green (USA) – 3:35.52 (2025 season best), 3:32.20 PB (2024)
- Joe Waskom (USA) – 3:36.23 (2025 season best), 3:33.74 PB (2024)
- Jean-Simon Desgagnés (CAN) – 3:42.79 (2025 season best)
With multiple athletes capable of sub-3:35 performances and ideal pacing conditions, the race could be set up for something special. With the field pushing the pace, fans can expect an exciting, fast race in the heart of Burnaby.
In the 3000m, Philibert-Thiboutot will lead the charge as pacer, helping set the tone for athletes chasing fast times in one of the final distance events of the night. Whether racing or pacing – and with Paris 2024 now behind him – Charles continues to prove himself as one of Canada’s most versatile and enduring middle-distance runners
Watch the M 1500m race at 8pm, the Jerome Classic, July 15, 2025 at Swangard Stadium, Burnaby. See schedule.
