The Mixed 3000m Race Walk is back at the Jerome Classic, and two of British Columbia’s finest are leading the charge. Local heroes Evan Dunfee and Olivia Lundman will step onto the track at Swangard Stadium, representing Canada in this exciting and fast-paced event that showcases both endurance and precision.
Evan Dunfee – World Record Breaker on Home Turf
Richmond’s Evan Dunfee enters this year’s Jerome Classic with a major milestone under his belt. On March 22, 2025, Dunfee made history in Slovakia, breaking the 35km race walk world record at the Dudince 50. His time of 2:21:40 shaved seven seconds off the previous mark, adding yet another achievement to a storied career that already includes an Olympic bronze medal and Pan Am Games gold.
Now, Dunfee returns to B.C. to compete in front of a hometown crowd. While the 3,000m distance is shorter than his usual races, his experience and signature calm-under-pressure style make him a favourite to watch.
Olivia Lundman – A Rising Star from Lantzville
Joining Dunfee on the start line is Olivia Lundman, a promising young racewalker from Lantzville, B.C. Since taking up the sport in 2019, Lundman has quickly risen through the national ranks -winning gold at the Canadian U20 Championships and representing Canada at international events like the NACAC U18 Championships, plus competing in the mixed race walk at the Olympic Games with Evan Dunfee.
Now stepping confidently into senior competition, Lundman will bring her trademark focus and fluid technique to the 3,000m event, looking to make an impression in front of a home province crowd.
A Unique and Exciting Format
The Mixed 3000m Race Walk sees men and women compete together in a single race, making for a dynamic and engaging event. With tactics, pacing, and pride all on the line, it’s one of the most entertaining races on the Jerome Classic program – and a rare chance to see elite racewalking up close.
Be There for the Action
With Dunfee and Lundman leading the charge, the Mixed 3000m Race Walk is sure to be a standout event on July 15. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to racewalking, this is a moment worth watching.
