En 2022, en reconnaissance des 57 ann\u00e9es de service de Doug et Diane Clement \u00e0 la t\u00eate de l’Achilles International Track & Field Society (Achilles), amis et coll\u00e8gues ont cr\u00e9\u00e9 un fonds de dotation pour soutenir durablement la famille Clement en finan\u00e7ant des bourses d’\u00e9tudes destin\u00e9es \u00e0 des \u00e9tudiants-athl\u00e8tes engag\u00e9s dans leur communaut\u00e9, \u00e0 l’University of BC (UBC) et \u00e0 Simon Fraser University (SFU).<\/p>\n
D\u00e9but 2022, un comit\u00e9 de 11 membres, le Achilles Clement Scholarship Committee<\/strong>, a discr\u00e8tement sollicit\u00e9 la communaut\u00e9 sportive, ses coll\u00e8gues et des partenaires commerciaux afin de collecter 100 000 $ pour ce fonds de dotation aupr\u00e8s de Vancouver Foundation. Ces premiers donateurs devaient former le \u00ab Founders Club 57<\/strong> \u00bb.<\/p>\n Fin mai, lors d’une r\u00e9ception surprise, Doug, Diane et la famille Clement ont appris que 180\u00a0000 $ avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 collect\u00e9s, portant le total des dons sur plusieurs ann\u00e9es \u00e0 255\u00a0000 $. Achilles Clement Scholarship Committee secretly organized. Yes, it was a complete shock, as we were completely unaware that this group had raised over a quarter of a million dollars in three months to start a scholarship fund created as a legacy to our family.<\/p>\n 2022 was a significant year for Diane and me. It marked our 86th and 89th birthdays, plus the \u201cBig Surprise\u201d wedding anniversary, and 58 years since founding the Achilles International Track and Field Society. Hundreds of outdoor and indoor track and field events as well as road races have been organized by Achilles during that time as well as founding the Vancouver Sun Run, which has attracted over a million participants seeking an active and healthy lifestyle.<\/p>\n Clearly, our family supports the Clement Scholarship Committee’s efforts to double the fund in the second phase of fundraising.
